Surprisingly good
I haven’t used OCR software since OmniPage Pro stopped working on OS X. I was wary of this app due to the two negative reviews; but there are two positive ones at this time, so I figured I’d give it a try. Which was easy to do, considering that the price is one fifth what I paid for OmniPage over a decade ago.
In a nutshell, the recognition is great. As a torture test, I scanned song lyrics from a couple of CD booklets. One booklet was simple; white text on a black background. Perfect translation, despite some weird, made up words. Other booklets, with textured or photographic backgrounds, gave me about 95% accuracy - much better than I expected. One booklet that had a weird font, was poorly OCR’d, which I completely expected. However, there was another booklet that had normal fonts mixed with a quirky looking font (for song titles). I purposely excluded the titles (because I firgued they wouldn’t be recognized), but accidentally left one in. And it was OCR’d properly.
