Ne fonctionne olus avec Yosemite !!!

Please dosomething for that !!!!!

Not Compatible yet with Yosemite

After the upgrade to Yosemite, this application is now marked as not compatible… No updates yet from the support!

Great !!!

Recently installed on iMac. Still learning. Works superb. Very satisfied so far. Love the way it scans to Word. Few errors.

Takes forever to upgrade

This app alwys seems to have issues with new Os releases. Still does not work on Yosemite.

high price, but offers auto straightening and MRC compression

its not worth the price. The only advantage to paying this much money is the fact that it can straigten PDF’s and output using MRC compression. As such, i only use it for straightening PDF’s and outputting with MRC compression. I then use PDFScanner for OCR recognition, and it has better automator capabilities. Feature request: Please allow more controls with Abby Fine Reader for Mac (purchased from the Mac app store). First, I would like is the ability to specifically select the enhancement I want during import. For example, when importing I want to select remove motion blur, reduce iso noise, and deskew, as well as detect page orientation. However, the software forces the use of the enhance images option, also corrects curved text. I dont want to use curved text because it results in distorted images. Second, in order to export as PDF (page image only), I have to force Abby Fine reader to read all the images, which is something I dont want as Im only interested in exporting as a PDF with MRC compression, but not with reading enabled. This feature request is really important, it is a time waster to have to force FineReader to read images, when they are being exported as PDF images, without text.

Truncated functionality version

Finereader OCR Pro is very different from PC 9th version that I was working with, only has like 10% of functionality. PRO word is totally misleading, in reality it’s a minimal cut off . It does not allow side to side text editing and correction, so for editing you will need to export it to some other format, pretty much not being able to see the original. Also it lacks training capability. For instance, I was not able to read quite clear screenshots from unix console (need to capture some live results). Unfortunately it’s totally useless for PDF conversion tasks - software clearly has really limited functionality. From now, please request trial versions before purchasing any Abbyy software to make sure they packed everything that is needed.

Best OCR

I find FineReader Pro significantly more accurate than other OCR applications, especially with less-than-optimum third party scans and italic type. Wish list: A user-definable dictionary would make it even more accurate.

Does not allow training like Windows version does

Unlike the Windows version, the Mac version does not allow the user to train ABBYY to fine-tune the recognition of a given font. This is very upsetting, and renders the product useless for my needs. Hopefully ABBYY will include the ability to custom train the system (map glyphs / images to characters) in a future version of this App. Going to continue to use the Windows version for now in a dual-boot environment. (I really like ABBYY FineReader in general, though).

The best OCR for Mac

By far the best OCR for Mac. I’ve tried Prizmo and ReadIris and they are maybe faster, but give much worse results. This is a very well done product. Highly recommended.

Not compatible with ScanSnap s1300

Will not execute the scan process with the ScanSnap s1300. It is only usable if you’ve already captured the documents as PDFs, they should change their description to make this more clear because it’s their first bullet right now: “scans and converts documents”.

Surprisingly good

I haven’t used OCR software since OmniPage Pro stopped working on OS X. I was wary of this app due to the two negative reviews; but there are two positive ones at this time, so I figured I’d give it a try. Which was easy to do, considering that the price is one fifth what I paid for OmniPage over a decade ago. In a nutshell, the recognition is great. As a torture test, I scanned song lyrics from a couple of CD booklets. One booklet was simple; white text on a black background. Perfect translation, despite some weird, made up words. Other booklets, with textured or photographic backgrounds, gave me about 95% accuracy - much better than I expected. One booklet that had a weird font, was poorly OCR’d, which I completely expected. However, there was another booklet that had normal fonts mixed with a quirky looking font (for song titles). I purposely excluded the titles (because I firgued they wouldn’t be recognized), but accidentally left one in. And it was OCR’d properly.

Crashes as soon as I open it

I’ve heard glowing reviews about this app from just about everyone, and as an educator who scans tons of documents, I was really looking forward to using it. Unfortunately, it gives the following error when I open it: Internal program error: /Volumes/Storage/BuildServer/buildAgent/work/503b2903815deb43/Shell/Components/FineUI/Dll.Awl/Source/GdiObjectAwl.mm, 179. Then it crashes immediately after I hit “Ok.” Bummer. I’ve contacted support about it, hopefully they’ll have a solution. If anyone has any info about this issue, I’d love some insight. Google searching doesn’t turn up much. I’d love for this program to work so I could give an excellent review like everyone else.

Crashes every time

I’ve installed Yossemite Beta and since then the app crashes every time giving me the next error: Internal program error: /Volumes/Storage/BuildServer/buildAgent/work/503b2903815deb43/Shell/Components/FineUI/Dll.Awl/Source/GdiObjectAwl.mm, 179. Communicationg with the company this was there response: The operation of ABBYY FineReader Pro for Mac on a computer running Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite Beta has not been tested. We cannot guarantee the correct work of the software. The software testing will be carried out after the full official version of the Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite operating system is released. So if you plan to use yosemite, it isn’t sure the appliction will work !!

Great app, doesn’t work on OS X 10.10

I have thrown everything I have at this app and it works like a champ. I give it only 4 stars because some documents with tables require you to select custom settings for proper table importing. Can’t wait for an update, this is the only thing keeping me from upgrading to Yosemite (It is that good).

Current version in app store not compatible with Yosemite

… which is annoying. And the update posted on the website doesn’t recognize that it’s already been purchased. Used to be the best OCR for Mac.

Broken with latest OS X upgrade

Do not purchase if you are using Yosemite. It won’t launch. Hopefully an update will be out soon.

It is not work

It is not work on new OS dont bay it!

Shockingly terrible - surprised this survived the App Store’s minimum threshold requirement

Shockingly terrible - surprised this survived the App Store’s minimum threshold requirement. What it does offer feels like a free plugin not a professional piece of software. This is one of those programs clearly designed for PC and then shoehorned into OSX. Ugly and disjointed interface. What features it does have are not intuitively accessible but are buried beneath an obscure interface. The OCR technology is adequate, albeit remarkably slow compared with Adobe, or even free solutions such as Google Drive or Evernote. Although named and priced as a professional product, this feels and operates like a stripped-down version. As mentioned by other reviewers, FineReader Pro has no batch processing capabilities. Don’t even think about automating processes using this App. I was shocked to learn that this product cannot even convert a color PDF text document into a black-and-white PDF text document. The program will not open files with filenames containing commas, colons, or several other characters. Sure, I could write a script to change all my file names. But who knows how many other shortcomings this program has, and I certainly don’t intend to find out—I’ve replaced this program with another. Importantly, an App is more than just the code that runs—or in FineReader Pro’s case: trudges—on your computer. Technical support is essential for any program sold for professional purposes. Do NOT expect any technical support for this App. The company’s website provides limited tech support documents and you may find an independent forum dealing with user issues. However, these are for other versions of the software and do not apply, even remotely, to the FineReader Pro offered through the App store. After registering the program with the developer, you can use the form on their website to submit questions. Don’t expect any live or realtime support. Instead, expect artful dodging of basic questions after days of unresponsiveness. Microsoft and Adobe programs are far from perfect, but with their multitude of users, you can Google a technical question, and not only receive official documentation on that issue relating to your exact version of the program, but you can read blogs, tech support forums, or even get youtube videos showing you exactly how to solve your problem. Likely, you will stumble onto manners of doing things that never would have occurred to you. FineReader offers you NOTHING of this sort. Terrible program, and I’ve given up on it. Moved onto much better PDF and OCR solutions and will not return to this developer. This company does not have the integrity to stand by its product or to issue a refund or alternative satisfaction for its defunct “professional” product.
